Choosing the right pee pad for your kid's incontinence or bedwetting can be a major struggle. There are a lot of different options available these days and you want to find the best option for your routine.
From waking up in the middle of the night, to soothing your crying toddler, to changing and washing the sheets, to trying to fall back asleep again, dealing with a bedwetting child is hard and you’re probably at the end of your rope.
Trust us, you don’t have to suffer through this. A lot of the stress around bedwetting can be alleviated just by using the right pee pad on your child's bed! We’ve put together a little guide for things to consider when shopping for a pee pad for kids.
Things to Consider when Buying a Pee Pad for Kids
Ease Of UseAt the top of our list for find the right kids pee pad is ease of use. You want something that you can easily lay on the bed and then easily pull off your child's bed if they have a nighttime accident.
If your kid’s pee pad is no easier to change than a fitted sheet, you have the wrong pee pad. What you will want to look for instead is a product that lays flat on the bed, doesn’t require changing sheets or tucking under the mattress, and can be switched out or removed in a pinch (or a 4 AM wake up call from your crying toddler). You’ll want a pee pad for kids that stays flat on the mattress and doesn’t bunch up, that way even the fussiest sleeper can’t budge it.
Absorbency
Of course, your pee pad needs to be ultra absorbent and leakproof. You should look for a pee pad that can absorb more than the average child’s single urine output, anywhere between 200 ml and 600 ml depending on their age, just to be sure there aren’t any surprise leaks onto the mattress.
Washable and Reusable
If you’re anything like us, you’ll want a toddler pee pad that you can throw in the washing machine and reuse as many times as you need to. This is better for the environment, better for your budget, and you’ll never have to worry about running out.
Some pee pads are disposable, and maybe if you’re travelling and don’t have access to laundry, this would be the right choice for you, but if you’re at home, business as usual, you’re better off finding a pee pad that you can easily wash and reuse.
Another thing to consider is whether there are special wash instructions. You’ll want to choose a toddler pee pad that’s easy to wash and that can go straight into the dryer with the rest of your towels. The last thing you need is another piece of laundry to sort! Comfort
We’ve come a long way since the days of girdles and corsets, so why should your child suffer more than they need to with a crinkly plastic mattress pad? You have options!
Look for a pee pad that’s comfortable and blends into the bedding. Not only will your child sleep more comfortably, but there’s also less chance that they’ll take matters into their own hands and remove the pee pad altogether. We recommend that your kid’s pee pad is made from cotton or a cotton-blend. This is the most breathable, comfortable material that’s still able to absorb your child’s bedwetting accidents.

We wanted to create a product that would protect our kid’s mattress and sheets, and that would help reduce the stress of bedwetting. Don’t take our word for it, though, see what a few of our customers have to say:
One mom said that “the first time you can do a bedding change for your child at 2 am in 30 seconds, you'll be asking yourself why you didn't buy it sooner!”
Jessica says that the PeapodMat “has been great for nighttime potty training for my toddler. It is soft and cozy but also really holds the moisture without soiling all the other linens.”
Emily says “[w]e got this because we were tired of switching out all of the bedding when our toddler wet the bed, and it makes the job a lot easier. It's also great because we can continue potty training when we're visiting relatives or staying at a hotel.“
Some children take a little longer to night train, and that’s ok. You don’t have to suffer through the nights anymore! There’s no need for you to be changing the sheets at 3 am when you should be sleeping, and there’s no reason you shouldn’t have a kids pee pad that’s easy to use, soft, comfortable, and reusable. The PeapodMat, with it’s leakproof, machine washable fabric, has got you covered.
