POD-TEX™ technology is a unique triple-layer design to create a leakproof, breathable and reusable bedwetting/incontinence mat.
TOP LAYER - 100% terry cotton. Grid stitched to prevent bunching.
MID LAYER - Polyester wadding. To absorb and disperse moisture.
UNDER LAYER - Coated polyester for waterproofing. Constructed to grip
PeapodMats® feature TPU waterproof coating and are certified by an independent third-party lab to be free of lead, cadmium, mercury and all phthalates. PeapodMats® are a green solution for the environment!

Quickly! The liquid will disperse amongst the top and middle layer so that the liquid doesn’t ‘pool’.
Lots! The 3x3 and 3x5 PeapodMats will safely absorb more than 1 litre+/ up to 6 cups of liquid. That is more than the average adult will urinate. A healthy adult bladder can hold up to 16 ounces/2 cups of urine. The 1.5x1.5 PeapodMats will hold up to 1/2 cup of liquid
PeapodMats won’t leak but they do breathe! We made a conscious decision when designing PeapodMats that they be as BREATHABLE and green as possible. Because the TPU waterproof coating is a green solution to PVC, plastic or vinyl and is breathable, vapors can escape but not liquid. Urine is made of over 90% water and water is the only thing that evaporates from urine. Any waste products (IE salts and minerals) are left behind. Because the PeapodMat is breathable (BUT LEAK PROOF) the water from urine may evaporate. This means the sheets underneath may feel very cool to the touch (giving a damp feeling) and may even have a slight smell from the vapors. But in the time it takes you to wash your PeapodMat you will find that the sheets no longer have that cool damp feeling and any smell will have disappeared – leaving the sheets clean and dry with no need to launder. If you were to test the PeapodMat with a glass of water you will find that it doesn’t leak through.
Yes! The TPU used in PeapodMats is a type of physical membrane which creates a barrier against dust mites over the covered surface. PeapodMats prevent dampness and the build-up of debris in your mattresses, such as skin cells and sweat. PeapodMats are free from PVC and phthalates, which have been linked to the development of asthma and allergies. PeapodMats are breathable and prevent excessive sweating which can aggravate many skin conditions, including eczema.
Great question! It will really depend on a few things. The size of the person using it, how much they move around and what surface they are protecting.
Our recommendation:
3x5 PeapodMat: older children, 3 yrs and up, to adult. Can be laid horizontal for bed size double or larger.
3x3 PeapodMat: up to ages 3 yrs of age or for an adult with limited mobility. Please keep in mind that these are just recommendations, if your child is large for their age at 3-4, you may need to go a size higher. **Not recommended for bed size double or larger.**
1.5 PeapodMat: Best for chairs, dining chairs, wheelchairs, OR as the perfect baby change mat or burping pad!
Whichever PeapodMat size you choose we highly recommend that the PeapodMat be placed slightly under the pillow. In our ‘Tips Video’ we show the best PeapodMat placement. Please visit our picture galleries (located in both the Kids and Adult tabs) for more clarification.

Yes! Launder with like colors and treat your PeapodMat like a big towel in your regular wash. NOT recommended is the use of fabric softener, dryer sheets, dryer balls or bleach. These products are known to reduce the quality of waterproofing. Vinegar or Oxyclean may be use once in awhile if you need to deodorize your PeapodMat.
Throw it back in! PeapodMats are designed for easy use therefore you aren’t required to do any additional steps for washing and drying.
Too much detergent! Just like regular towels that stiffen over time, it is usually because too much detergent has been used and the terry cotton has built up a soapy residue. Remember we also don't recommend the use of fabric softener as that will also do the same thing! Wash your PeapodMat with a cup of vinegar and/or baking soda, with a thorough rinse. That should work to make the terry cotton soft and fluffy once again. If the mat has alot of residue you may have to do this a couple of times!
UH OH! Unfortunately, unbeknownst to many of us there are numerous daily products we use that contain whitening/bleaching agents and therefore discoloration can be caused by several factors:
Luckily, this won't affect the leak proofing! Unfortunately, if this happens, PeapodMats will not be able to warranty your mat as these are circumstances beyond our control.
Below are examples of discoloration due to the above-mentioned factors:

We do! We have both an instructional video as well as a tips video:

Thanks for asking! We highly recommend that the PeapodMat be placed slightly under the pillow.
Not all. PeapodMats work best with regular cotton or terry bed sheets. If a bed sheet is very smooth, the PeapodMat will not grip as well and will move during the night. Run your hand across your bed sheet, if there is no texture, it feels very smooth or silky it may not be the best choice for the PeapodMat.
PeapodMats grip very well to carpets and upholstered furniture. If the surface is smooth (laminate/wood flooring, tiles, leather sofa etc.), it will not grip but will remain waterproof.
ABSOLUTELY! Single-use bed pads might seem cheap at first glance but they quickly add up to as much as $650 per year, when used every night. That's if you're only using 1 pad per night... While PeapodMats might seem more expensive, they are reusable and will save you money in the long run. A Medium PeapodMat will pay for itself in about 7 weeks and a Large one in 8 weeks!
Not if you don’t want him to! However, we recommend that he wear both underwear and pj’s (vs one or the other). The male anatomy can be tricky and end up pointing in all directions in the middle of the night and it has been our experience that the waist band from both the underwear and pj’s ensures there isn’t a “spray” everywhere. Save your money on buying pull ups!
Sorry to hear that! If that was because of lack of breathability you won’t have to worry with PeapodMats. We pride ourselves on the fact that PeapodMats are breathable while still being leak proof!
You bet! Many of our customers have shared with us how they use their PeapodMats ‘beyond the bed’. Please check out the Kids tab or read 'Choosing the Right Kids Pee Pad' for more information on using PeapodMats for toddlers & children (beyond potty training).
Possibly! We are continually thinking of ways to be innovative with our products…while keeping in mind it has to be easy to use and easy to wash.
Absolutely! We’ve had a number of customers purchase PeapodMats for this exact reason. In fact we have a whole list of additional uses that customers have shared with us. Please check out the Adults tab to find out more!
Yes & No! Do NOT use PeapodMats for UNATTENDED sleeping children between 0-9 months of age. If using a PeapodMat in a crib, when the child is 10 months or older, we recommend using it under the crib sheets. We do recommend using PeapodMats for babies for ‘nudey’ tummy time, changing mat, or bath mat (attended of course!).
